Heating and Cooling Tips

Because up to half of the energy used in your home goes to heating and cooling, Cold Wall, Inc is dedicated to helping your make great decisions regarding your HVAC system! Filter Change

First, we start with the basics.  While this might seem like an obvious one, many people overlook this basic step.  It’s quick – easy- and effective.  Whenever a filter change is done one time, it can prevent too much debris from backing up in your system.  Filters can differ in life span.  Typically, a good filter can last for 90 days.  If you are unsure about your filter needs consult with an expert.  That’s us!  We will help you!  Because we don’t want you to experience slow airflow.  Therefore, let’s get that filter under control to avoid expensive maintenance and unnecessary break downs.

Preventative Maintenance

Ask yourself, when was the last time you had a Preventative Maintenance Done on your HVAC System.  Trust me, at Cold Wall, Inc. we know all too well that many people are not doing this regularly.  Certainly, we are not out to shame you, but we have to let you know that if you are not doing this Routine Preventative Maintenance, you are setting yourself up for costly repairs.

We get it!  We are people too and neglect things from time to time.  However, our job here is to encourage you to get on track with your Preventative Maintenance to stay efficient with cooling and costs.  Remember we told you that we follow Energy Star Guidelines, we tell no lies. In Addition to that, we go over and beyond when it comes to Maintaining your Equipment. Energy Star Checklist vs. Cold Wall Preventative Maintenance Checklist!

Upgrade to a Programmable Thermostat

Although we are in a new age of technology, many people still have old thermostats.  Check yourself!  If you have the type of Thermostat that requires you to adjust it then you are missing out!  Now, we have access to Smart thermostats that have been certified, based on actual field data, to deliver energy savings.

Because the programmable thermostats can allow you to control your heating and cooling remotely it really helps rack up the savings throughout the year!   ideal for people who are away from home during set periods of time throughout the week. Ultimately, a Programmable Thermostat can save you up to $180 annually just from the remote control feature alone.  However, there are other features to stack the savings by being energy efficient!

Seal your heating and cooling ducts

Because ducts are like the lungs of your system, it is imperative you keep them sealed.  Can you imagine trying to breathe with a whole in your lungs?  Do you know the strain that would put on the rest of your body?   Rhetorical!  But, seriously, get those leaky ducts sealed up! You can’t cool Florida Homes with leaks in your Ducts.  Due to leaks, the system will stay in overdrive and burn out quicker than you deserve.  See Energy Star Duct Sealing Fact Sheet (PDF, 787 KB) for more information.  Nonetheless, get this taken care of ASAP.  If you know you have leaky ducts!  Contact us, Today!  We have sensible sealing solutions!

Always Install ENERGY STAR heating and cooling equipment

If you are having trouble with an HVAC system that is more than 10 years old, You should have a new HVAC Unit in your near future.  Nothing lasts forever and once your unit has reached the end of life, please be prepared to let it go!  Now, we are not suggesting getting rid of an old unit that has been well maintained and still performing well.  However, if your system is letting you down and you know it is time to replace it.  We encourage you to make the upgrade with Energy Star Equipment. At Cold Wall, Inc. we always use Energy Star Equipment. Financing is available for those who need it!

Make Sure your Installation is done by a Professional!

Choosing a Professional Contractor to get this job done is key.  Certainly, you don’t want a shoddy job that can have the opposite intended outcome.  According to Energy.gov, an improperly installed unit can decrease efficiency by up to 30%!  That’s a huge loss! Not to mention the cost of your investment.  Therefore, it’s imperative you get this done right.  Certainly, we would be honored to be your choice. Cold Wall, Inc. is the best choice for New System Installs.
